Opportunities to Get Involved
Interested in sharpening your leadership skills? The OWL Institute for Leadership prepares students to take the lead in the classroom, the workplace, and the larger community.
Students in the OWL Institute for Leadership will have the opportunity to:
- Participate in local, regional, or national community service projects
- Attend leadership discussions and workshops on or off campus
- Apply for an OWL Institute for Leadership Scholarship
Harford's Alternative Breaks enable students to travel to areas in need—to volunteer, experience diverse perspectives, learn about social issues, and grow as lifelong citizens. Scholarships are available and we encourage all interested students to apply. Applications are available at the Office of Student Life on the ground floor of the Student Center.
Travel opportunities are also available through Community Education.

Harford students frequently volunteer with the organizations below:
- The Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center (SARC) holds a number of local volunteer events throughout the year.
- The American Red Cross holds two community blood drives annually in the Student Center.
- Harford Family House holds a number of local volunteer events throughout the year.
