Tenement Museum and Brunch

Travel back in time as you embark on a guided tour of the Tenement Museum’s oldest apartment. Discover how John and Caroline Schneider ran and lived in an 1870s century lager saloon, then jump forward in time to the 1930s auction house of Max Marcus. Following your morning tour, the group will sit down for a catered brunch from the iconic Russ and Daughters at the museum. Enjoy a buffet with freshly baked NYC bagels, spreads, sweets and, of course, coffee and orange juice. Then, hear from a costumed interpreter about her home in Greece and the immigration process in 1916. We’ll end our day with a short film called “Treasures of New York.” Fee includes round-trip transportation on a motor coach bus, admission to the museum, two guided apartment tours and brunch.

In 1801, French immigrant E. I. du Pont purchased a plot of land along the Brandywine and in 1802 established a gun powder mill on the site. Eventually E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. was the leading supplier of gunpowder to the United States Government. Tour the Hagley black powder yard, the family home and gardens plus learn about the inventions and patents held by this innovator. His descendants, the du Pont family, have been one of the richest and most prominent American families since the 19th century, with generations of influential businessmen, politicians and philanthropists. After lunch, we will visit the property of Alfred I. du Pont, grandson of E. I. His property, named Nemours Estate, has stunning grounds, gardens and a 77-room mansion to tour on your own. There are many varieties of dumplings: steamed, braised, or deep fried, all served in a bamboo mini steamer. Join Chef Woo Can on a guided Dim Sum tasting at a local restaurant and end with a visit to a local Asian grocery store. Tea and tastings will be served, while Chef Woo explains how dishes were prepared. The Asian grocery store includes traditional and Western fruit, veggies, dry goods and more. Created in collaboration with Neil Diamond himself, A Beautiful Noise is the uplifting true story of how a kid from Brooklyn became a chart-busting, show-stopping American rock icon. Family-owned and operated since 1991, this Little Italy restaurant is known for their fresh seafood and pasta. A limited menu has been developed, and our reservation is located on the second floor of the restaurant. Fee includes round-trip transportation on a motor coach, an orchestra theater seat, and dinner.

Difficulty:

Leisurely day. You can board a bus, climb one flight of stairs, walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. 

Slightly challenging. Likely walking two to three miles over the course of the day, on a variety of terrains with rest breaks. 

On the go. You can handle standing for long periods of time, are able to walk about 6,000 steps during the trip and are comfortable climbing into/out of various modes of transportation.

Physically active. During this trip, you will likely walk 8,000–10,000 steps. You must be comfortable with long periods of standing or walking on uneven terrain and steep slopes.
