ESL English as a Second Language

The ESL program at Harford Community College helps non-native English-speaking adults improve their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and work and life skills.

Start Here.

  • You must be 18 years of age or older, not currently in high school, and not an F1 or J1 visa holder.
  • You must register for a FREE online pre-orientation session to learn about the ESL program and requirements.

Following the pre-orientation, students come to campus to complete an English assessment and enrollment paperwork. The process takes approximately two hours.

Taking Classes.

Once you have completed pre-orientation and advising sessions, you may begin your ESL classes. All ESL students must attend classes and complete all program requirements.

Every time I come to class I learn a lot of different things. The teacher always helps us whenever we have a problem. My English improved a lot. I feel more comfortable and confident when communicating. I understand more about America’s history and culture.
