Laptops + Equipment
The Library provides students with borrowing access to a variety of electronic devices.
Semester Loans of Laptops UPDATE 1/20/23:
Beginning Spring Semester 2023, HCC Library is discontinuing semester-length loans of laptop devices, which include HP ProBooks, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, and Microsoft Surface Go tablets. Credit students that have an HCC student ID card may checkout laptop devices for a period of 21 days. Students may exchange the laptop for a second loan period 21 days depending upon availability. This is in order to ensure that the greatest number of students can be served. Loans are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Library’s Second Floor Circulation Desk.
Students in need of technology solutions for the length of a semester or longer are encouraged to contact HCC’s College Store (443.412.2412) to learn about purchasing options that are available to students through Financial Aid.
Terms of Use
- By borrowing Library equipment, students accept all responsibility for lost, stolen, and damaged equipment.
- Equipment is due back by assigned due date but may be returned any time prior.
- Equipment should be returned to the Library Circulation Desk during open Library hours. Do not return equipment to book drop or leave with anyone other than Library staff.
- All library equipment (laptops, graphing calculators, digital media, related accessories, etc.) not returned on time will incur a late fine of $10.00 per hour.
- If equipment is not returned, students will be held responsible for: Price of equipment • Price of power cable • Price of travel bag if applicable • Any accrued fines
- Items already paid for may not be returned for a refund. Payments for lost items and materials are considered final.
Financial Holds + Collections
- A financial hold will be placed on the student’s account if fees for lost/unreturned items meet or exceed $50. A financial hold prevents student from registering for classes at HCC and obtaining transcripts.
- Students with long-overdue equipment that is not returned or paid for in full will be reported to the Bursar in HCC’s Finance & Accounting department. After being reported to the Bursar, students must negotiate with the Bursar to avoid referral to a Collection Agency.
