Student and Alumni Success
Where have they gone? What have they done?
Sometimes you need to hear, or read, first-hand, to see for yourself the impact that Harford Community College has on both individuals and our community. Sometimes that's what it takes to fully understand that when you Invest in yourself at Harford, it can change everything.
Watch and listen as Noah discusses community colleges, shouts out Harford, and presents his recently published paper at the Allen Institute, Seattle, WA.
Noah Courtney
Noah started his time at Harford Community College as an Exercise Science major who was medically retired from the US Coast Guard. After being told by Professor Jackie Madden, "You think like a researcher," something clicked. He changed his major to Biology and that started an incredible journey. While at Harford, he received a National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM grant which led to him conducting underwater kelp forest research at University of Alaska Southeast. After graduation, he transferred to Cornell University where he was named a Merrill Presidential Scholar, graduating in the top 1% of his class in biology. Noah is currently pursuing his PhD at Texas Tech as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow in Discipline-Based Educational Research in biology. Noah’s advice to students? “Put yourself out there. Take a chance and go for it! I had a lot of challenges before coming to Harford, but they all led to where I am today.”
Jenny Beall
After experiencing addiction and dropping out of high school at the age of 15, Jenny Beall wasn't sure what her future would look like, but by 18 she enrolled in Harford’s GED® program and earned her high school diploma. That wasn't the end. Jenny continued her studies at Harford, earned her Veterinary Assistant certificate, and is now working as the Surgical Manager at Abbey Animal Hospital in Perry Hall. She encourages others who have been in her situation to, “Just do it. You are the only person that can see the change that you desire.”

Kelly Roman
18-year old Kelly Roman wasn't ready to go to a four-year university. She quickly realized Harford was great way to save money and earn credits before making the leap to somewhere bigger. And leap she did, transferring to the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2015, where she pursued a major in Illustration and earned her BFA in 2018. Kelly is currently a successful, freelance artist who has designed posters and merchandise for renowned music acts like Smashing Pumpkins and The Cure. ". . . and I still utilize the skills I learned at Harford."
