Harford has opened a new Workforce Training Center at Water’s Edge, located at 4690 Millennium Drive in Belcamp. The center offers five new programs designed to provide accessible skills training for Harford Countians to secure high-demand jobs with living wages.
Hpone Myat was one of 210 Phi Theta Kappa members from across the country named a 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The awards help new PTK members with educational expenses while completing their associate degrees.
A Ceremony of Completion and Celebration was held recently for 70+ students who completed their programs of study at Harford’s Leading Edge Training Center Powered by the Ratcliffe Foundation at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties in Edgewood, MD.
A Completion Ceremony for graduates of the Medical Assisting Program was held recently. Six students completed 160 hours of training in physicians’ offices across the county after finishing rigorous coursework for their Medical Assisting Certification and AAS degrees.
Hosted by the College’s Nursing and Allied Health Professions division, the Summer Nursing Class Pinning Ceremony for 21 proud associate degree graduates was held on August 19 at Harford’s APGFCU Arena. Jasmine Crank and Catherine Wehage were the class speakers.
Following a string of recent years with low participation among member schools, the NJCAA announced the discontinuation of women’s lacrosse as a sponsored sport. As a result, Harford will suspend its women’s lacrosse program beginning with the 2024-25 academic year.
Harford hosted eight local high school students for its innovative, grant-supported BIOTECH Pathways Summer Institute. Students gained basic biotechnology skills through hands-on laboratory experiences and learned more about what a career in biotech has to offer.
Gov. Wes Moore appointed David Jimenez to Harford’s Board of Trustees for a five-year term expiring June 30, 2029. Trustees Karen Holt and Steve Linkous were reappointed to the Board. Trustee Holt joined Jimenez at the swearing-in ceremony to renew her oath of office.
Harford’s Geospatial Technology Program hosted a summer workshop on Geospatial Technology for middle and high school social studies teachers from Harford County Public Schools to gain resources for helping students build spatial thinking skills and knowledge about the world.
