Michael T. Smith Sr. Receives Harford Community College’s Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Theresa B. Felder, president of Harford Community College, presented the 2025 Harford Community College Distinguished Alumni Award to Michael T. Smith Sr. at the College’s 67^th Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 22, 2025. Recipients of the award have attained outstanding success in their chosen profession, demonstrated a commitment to the community, and maintained an interest in and service to Harford Community College.

Smith received an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Harford Community College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland University College. In addition, he completed religious studies with Kentucky College of Contemporary Religion and Covenant Bible College. Bishop Smith is currently pursuing a Master of Theological Studies at Loyola University Maryland.

Smith returned to Harford as a member of the Board of Trustees in September 2023, where he serves as an at-large representative. His work on the Finance & Audit Committee and consistent support at campus events reflect his dedication to the College’s mission.

With over 20 years as an experienced trainer in the healthcare industry, he recently progressed to government contracting and now works as a senior systems administrator for General Dynamics Information Technology.

A steadfast community servant, he has led the New Bethel House of Prayer in Baltimore for over two decades, fostering unity and tirelessly assisting underserved populations. His broader leadership as the Maryland State Superintendent for the House of God and as a Bishop reflects his commitment to impactful, community-based partnerships.

He is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he has served as the Iota Alpha Lambda Chapter’s Chaplain and Vice President.
