CISCO Certified Network Associate: CCNA

If you're currently working at a help desk or as a Computer Support Technician and are looking for advancement, the CCNA program prepares you to move up the ranks in IT.

The CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) program is for entry-level network engineers that maximizes your investment in foundational networking knowledge and increases the value of your employer's network.

CCNA includes security and automation and programmability, covering a broad range of fundamentals for IT careers. Retooled for the latest technologies and job roles, the CCNA program and exam give you the foundation you need to take your career in any direction. The CCNA validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks.

To prepare for this network transition, the CCNA certification not only prepares you with the knowledge of foundational technologies, but ensures you stay relevant with skill sets needed for the adoption of next-generation technologies.

REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED®

CCNA Routing and Switching are for Network Specialists, Network Administrators, and Network Support Engineers with 1-3 years of experience.

Courses

Harford Community College offers three courses that prepare you for the certification exam and must be taken in sequence:

  • Cisco I
  • Cisco II
  • Cisco III

Topics covered include network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and automatic and programmability.

What can I do when I complete this program?

After completing this program, students are prepared to sit for the CCNA exam. Certification holders are eligible for employment as entry-level network engineers, network administrators, network support technicians or computer support technicians. 

Those who complete the CCNA certification may pursue an associate degree in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity or an Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Certificate.
