Harford Community College Offers English as a Second Language ClassesHarford Community College will be offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes April 20 - June 22, 2026. If you are interested in taking these classes, use this link to register for Pre-Orientation.

ESL classes help students improve their English for everyday life and work. They will practice reading, writing, speaking, listening, pronunciation, and grammar. Harford offers evening classes on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In-person classes at Edgewood Public Library and Harford Community College as well as online classes are available. PLEASE NOTE: By law, Harford’s ESL program is unable to serve anyone under the age of 18.

There are five levels of classes ranging from beginner to advanced. Class level is determined by completing an English assessment. The first two levels of classes are free, and textbooks are provided on the first night of classes. The two middle levels of classes require textbooks costing $50; the College offers book waivers for half the cost of the books. The highest-level class costs $100 for tuition, but books are included with the tuition. Harford also offers scholarships for tuition.

The program has attendance and class participation requirements. The College provides all students with access to a computer program called Burlington English. All students are required to complete two hours a week in this online program.
