Humanities + Jobs Alliance
Translating Education into Marketable Employment Skills
The Humanities + Jobs Alliance (HJA) is an exciting new initiative at Harford Community College designed to bridge the gap between Humanities education and real-world work experiences.
The initiative enables students to gain valuable career experience, explore job possibilities, engage in AI-based opportunities, prepare for advanced study, and create networking opportunities.
Initially, the goal is to prepare students in fields like History, Communication Studies, and Philosophy with the skills and experiences that employers like you are seeking—and to connect you directly with these talented, motivated students.
KEY COMPONENTS of HJA
Workplace Skill Attainment
Experiential Learning
Internship/Practicum Classes
Field Experiences Built into Curriculum
Aligning with Harford's Vision 2030 Strategic Plan, HJA plans to partner with local business and agencies to create joint sustainable initiatives and programs designed to help students become college and career-ready.
Let’s Build the Future Workforce—Together
The HJA is actively seeking employers and community organizations to partner with the College as we launch this new initiative. To date, Harford Community College's team includes faculty with advisory staff, such as career and academic advisors, representation from our Career and Workforce team, and leadership from Arts and Humanities.
Moving forward, we are currently assembling an Industry Advisory Board to include employer representatives from business, nonprofit organizations and government. There is much work to be done but we anticipate by the 2027 academic year we will be placing students in positions with external employers for financial compensation and/or academic credit.
By getting involved now, you can directly shape the future workforce while providing your organization with bright, capable students who bring fresh perspectives and a versatile skill set to your team.
