Certain Forms Exhibit to Open at LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery

Certain Forms, an exhibit by Xyl Lasersohn, will be on display October 5 to November 1 in the Dr. James & Lynne LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery located in the Chesapeake Welcome Center at Harford Community College.

The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, October 8, 6-7:30 PM, in the LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery.

Originally from northeastern Ohio, Xyl currently lives and works in Baltimore. He received a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art before earning an MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art.

His paintings have been exhibited at the Butler Institute of Art (OH), The Peale Museum (MD), Botanica Grove (NYC), BAU Gallery (NY), and The Hill Center (DC). Xyl recently attended the Ox-Bow School of Art’s longform residency and was named a 2025 semifinalist for the Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize. His work has also been featured by The Ocean State Review and Bold Journey magazine.     

Xyl Lasersohn's large scale oil paintings address the uncanniness of the ordinary. According to the artist, "Featured in this exhibition are a selection of landscapes with objects in them. There are a few figures, but they are but brief moments. It is encouraged to linger with each painting for a moment and then look at the next one when appropriate. By doing so, one might find some uncertainty, things that are not quite as they seem. There are shapes and forms obscured and smothered by layers of paint, an internal logic no one seems privy to, and maybe a clinging melancholy. A reminder of the inconclusive and finding some comfort in the unknown."

The LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery is located on the first floor of the Chesapeake Welcome Center on Harford Community College’s campus at 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. Parking is free. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM.
