SALUTE National Honor Society Induction Ceremony at Harford Community College

Not in attendance, Tara Brooks, Justin Haga, and Fredrick Onoja.Harford Community College inducted seven veterans into the SALUTE National Honor Society on Wednesday, April 22 in a ceremony in the College’s Student Center.

The ceremony included a welcome from Barbara Travers, Coordinator of APG and Veterans’ Services at Harford Community College. Following the National Anthem, Colonel Bill Montgomery, US Army Retired, combat veteran, Harford credit adjunct professor with the Business and Applied Technology Division, and on-air host/co-producer of Veterans SITREP on WHFC-FM 91.1, led the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Dr. Theresa B. Felder, Harford Community College’s President, and Dr. Michele Campagna, Vice President for Student Success, offered greetings and congratulations to the inductees. The guest speaker was Robert Brown, Harford County Veterans Affairs Coordinator and Chair of the Harford County Commission on Veterans Affairs. Ms. Travers spoke about the history of the honor society and SALUTE values. Colonel Bill Montgomery administered the SALUTE oath. Ms. Travers delivered the closing remarks.

2026 SALUTE inductees include Tara Brooks, U.S. Army Veteran; Aiesha S. Cunningham, U.S. Army Veteran; Justin Haga, U.S. Air Force Veteran; Joshua Hartsough, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran; Darone Jacobs, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran; Fredrick Onoja, U.S. Army Veteran; and Sarah Schrader, U.S. Army Veteran.

SALUTE is the first national academic honor society established for student veterans and active military in two-year and four-year institutions of higher education. To be considered for induction into SALUTE, an individual must be an undergraduate student who has earned a minimum 3.00 GPA and completed 12 credit hours.

Each chapter symbolizes not only the collective achievement of veterans bettering themselves through the pursuit of knowledge, but also Harford’s commitment as a college to honor those among us who have served as the ‘tip of the spear’ across the nation.

SALUTE was formed in 2009 by the Colorado State University Veterans Office funded by a grant from the American Council of Education and the Walmart Foundation.
