Harford Community College Celebrates National Library Week

16 April 2026

Revolutionary StitchesHarford Community College’s Library will be celebrating National Library Week from April 20 to 24. To mark the occasion, the Library will be hosting three events that are free and open to the public.

On Monday, April 20, the Harford Community College Library and the Hays-Heighe House will host “Revolutionary Stitches” from 11 AM to 1 PM on the Library patio (rain location at the Hays-Heighe House). The session is a "make and take" event designed to educate participants about handcrafting (making items skillfully by hand) during the Colonial Period. Learn about drop-spindles, weaving, embroidery, crochet, and more. All supplies will be provided. If you have any questions, contact HaysHeighe@harford.edu or 443.412.2539.

On Wednesday, April 22, the College Library and the Hays-Heighe House will host “Sustainable Crafting” from 11 AM to 1 PM on the Library patio (rain location at the Hays-Heighe House). Join us on Earth Day to learn more about how you can incorporate the three Rs, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” into crafting. Hands-on activities will include upcycling yarn with thrifted sweaters, creating plastic yarn, making rag rugs, and more. All supplies will be provided. Contact HaysHeighe@harford.edu or 443.412.2539 with any questions.

Thursday, April 23 is “Take Action for Libraries Day!” Visit the table on the second floor of the Library from 10 AM to 2 PM to learn about book banning and censorship and get resources on how to advocate for your local libraries.

Harford Community College is committed to promoting the full participation of all individuals with disabilities at the event. For disability-related accommodations, call 443.412.221.
