Audition Announcement: Phoenix Festival Theatre’s Rent

12 March 2026

Auditions will be held for Phoenix Festival Theatre’s production of Rent on Monday, March 16 and Wednesday, March 18 in Harford Community College’s Darlington Hall, Room 202. Auditions begin at 7 p.m. each night.

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent is based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme. Jonathan Larson’s Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

This production contains sensitive content and is intended for mature audiences. Actors must be 18+. Callbacks may be held and are by invitation. All invited actors must attend in-person callbacks to be considered for casting. Callbacks will be held at 7 p.m. on March 19, in Susquehanna Center, Room 212. Rehearsals will begin in April. Not all cast members will be called to all rehearsals. Co-Directors and Choreographers are Bambi Johnson and Eyvo Johnson; the Music Director is Dave Tramontana.

Rent will be performed live at the Chesapeake Theater in the Chesapeake Welcome Center on Harford Community College’s campus on June 5-14, Fridays at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 3 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.; and Sundays at 3 p.m. See more details and sign up to audition here.
