Harford Athletics to Host Inaugural “Harford Hoops New Year’s Classic” Featuring Boy’s, Men’s Basketball Slate of Games

22 December 2025

Harford Community College Athletics will host its inaugural “Harford Hoops New Year’s Classic” January 2 to January 4, 2026, at the APG Federal Credit Union Arena at Harford Community College, located at 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. Doors will open no later than 30 minutes prior to tipoff times and general admission is $5 cash only each day. Children under 12, four-year college coaches and scouts are free.

"We’re thrilled to ring in the new year by hosting such highly competitive basketball matchups,” said Harford Assistant Athletic Director Dimitrios Jelen-Joy. “Every team on the schedule brings a strong tradition of success and exciting talent that basketball fans across the community will enjoy watching."

High school basketball will tip off the first two days of the Harford Hoops New Year’s Classic, setting the stage for a weekend of competitive play. On Friday, January 2, Aberdeen High School meets Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School at 5 p.m., followed by Harford men’s basketball hosting Hagerstown Community College in an NJCAA Region 20/Maryland JUCO Conference game at 7 p.m. The Sunday, January 3 schedule begins at 1 p.m. with Loyola Blakefield facing St. Paul’s School for Boys, before Hagerstown returns to the floor to take on Brunswick Community College (Bolivia, N.C.) at 3 p.m. Harford will close the classic by hosting Brunswick on Sunday, January 4 at 1 p.m.

APG Federal Credit Union Arena accommodates 3,200 seated guests and this event is expected to be heavily attended. Admission includes both games on the first two days of the classic, so it is recommended that spectators arrive early for the best seating options. A concession stand will also be open for the first two days of the classic.

Media members who wish to attend and cover any day(s) or games(s) should contact Rocco Geppi, Coordinator of Athletic Communications, at rgeppi@harford.edu or 443-807-0924, for credentials no later than Tuesday, December 30.
