Harford Community College to Hold Data Science Pathways Information Session

Harford Community College is holding an information session for current and prospective Data Science students on Tuesday, October 21 in Bel Air Hall, Room 240, at 6 PM.

Data Scientists utilize computer programming and scripting, database management, data analysis, statistical interpretation, data preparation and cleaning, and quantitative analysis to solve problems as a business or data mining analyst, data or machine learning engineer, or manager in the field of data science.
Data Science is one of the most highly sought-after fields due to an abundance of need and a lucrative pay scale. As local, regional, national, and global businesses continue to expand their data collection to inform their decision-making, data analysts and scientists are becoming some of the most valuable assets that a company has. Career options are plentiful in fields such as business and banking, professional sports, bioinformatics, and healthcare.
With an associate degree in Data Science from Harford, students can transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree. Career options in the field are plentiful and include business intelligence analyst, data mining analyst, data engineer, database architect, market research analyst, and statistician.
Maryland benefits from proximity to federal agencies, research institutions, and defense contractors, which heavily invest in data analytics, cybersecurity, and AI. The projected growth for 2025-2028 is 6.5%. In Maryland, more than 65,000 people are currently employed in the field and the average salary is $114,964.
