Harford Community College Names Marissa Kozlowski Women’s Volleyball Head Coach

16 June 2025

Bel Air, MD (June 11, 2025) – Harford Community College Athletics announces that Marissa Kozlowski has joined the Fighting Owls as the women’s volleyball head coach. Kozlowski accepts the position departed by Johnny Powell, who resigned in May to accept the head women’s volleyball coach position at Susquehanna University (Selinsgrove, Pa.), an NCAA Division III program. In six seasons (2020-21 cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic), Powell led Harford to a 102-22 (.823) overall record, two NJCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball national tournament appearances, and the program’s first national tournament victory. Kozlowski takes over as the seventh head coach in modern Harford volleyball history.

"I’m truly excited to step into the role as head coach of the Fighting Owls women’s volleyball program,” Kozlowski said. “I have great respect for the coaches and players who have worked hard to build this program’s foundation successfully. I can’t wait to bring my energy and ideas to help keep the momentum going.”

Kozlowski is also entering her 12th year with Maryland Juniors and has an impressive track record. She has led teams to qualify for United States of America Volleyball (USAV) Nationals eight times, a testament to her skill and dedication as a coach. Her teams have earned bids to USAV Nationals at prestigious events such as the North East Qualifier and Big South Qualifier. Under her leadership, teams have achieved:

  • Two 3rd-place finishes and a 5th-place finish in the Open Division at Capitol Hill Classic in Washington, D.C.
  • A championship win at Monument City Classic in Richmond, Virginia
  • A top-5 finish while playing up an age group in the Beast of the East Division at the East Coast Classic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“Our student athletes will benefit from coach Kozlowski’s experience competing at multiple levels of collegiate volleyball and her in-depth knowledge of the game,” said Athletic Director Ed Liesch. “I am excited to watch her continue the success our volleyball team has had the last three to four years.”

In addition to her coaching accomplishments, Kozlowski plays multiple key roles at Maryland Juniors. She serves as an elite coach, Tournament Coordinator, Camp and Clinic Director and Weekend Tournament Director. She was also an instrumental part of the staff that launched the club’s boys program, which grew from a single team to seven teams under her guidance.

Originally from San Diego, California, Kozlowski played club volleyball for Epic Volleyball Club and San Diego Volleyball Club. She competed at the NCAA Division I level for Saint Peter’s University (Jersey City, New Jersey) for two years before taking a break to start a family. Her passion for the sport brought her back to the court, as she returned to play for one season at Atlantic Cape Community College (Mays Landing, New Jersey) and later transferred to Rutgers University – Camden (Camden, New Jersey) to complete her collegiate career.

Welcome
