Harford Hosts Geospatial Technology Workshop for Harford County Public School Teachers

13 August 2024

Harford Community College’s Geospatial Technology Program recently hosted a summer workshop on Geospatial Technology for middle and high school social studies teachers from Harford County Public Schools. Funded by the “Map Your Success” National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Grant, the workshop was free for participants.

The teachers explored a variety of geographic applications and resources they could use in the classroom to help students build spatial thinking skills and knowledge about the world. The applications included the National Geographic Map Maker, Esri Maps for Public Policy, World Imagery Wayback, Living Atlas of the World apps, and ArcGIS Online. Participants will learn additional geographic applications and create a geospatial technology lesson plan during the asynchronous component of the workshop.

The workshop was conducted by Nicole Ernst, Professor of Geospatial Technology at Harrisburg Area Community College and Associate Director of the GeoTech Center, and Dr. Tamara Biegas, Associate Professor of Geography at Harford Community College.

Harford Community College will host another Geospatial Technology Teacher Workshop for middle school and high school teachers of all disciplines in summer 2025.
