Governor Wes Moore Appoints New Member to Harford Community College Board of Trustees

Governor Wes Moore has appointed Michael Smith to the nine-member Harford Community College Board of Trustees.Governor Wes Moore has appointed Michael Smith to the nine-member Harford Community College Board of Trustees, where he will serve as an at-large representative. His term will expire on June 30, 2027. Smith was sworn in at the office of the Clerk of the Court in Bel Air on September 1.

"I am honored and excited to join the Board of Trustees at my alma mater, Harford Community College. My journey from student to trustee has been fueled by a passion for service, leadership, and the pursuit of knowledge. Just as this institution laid the foundation for my academic growth, it's a privilege to now contribute to its continued excellence,” Smith said.

An alumnus of the College, Smith has served as a professional trainer in the healthcare industry for more than 20 years. He recently transitioned into government contracting and now works for General Dynamics Information Technology. For the last 23 years, Smith has also led a vibrant church in Baltimore City, New Bethel House of Prayer, and serves as the Maryland State Superintendent for the House of God. In his leadership roles, and as a Bishop of the church, he has championed partnering with nonprofit organizations and supporting inter-denominational collaboration to serve underserved populations and cultivate unity in the surrounding communities.

“On behalf of the administrators, faculty, staff, and students of Harford, I am honored to welcome Michael to the Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Theresa B. Felder, president of Harford. “With his leadership experience and love for knowledge, he is sure to make excellent contributions to the Board.”

Smith received an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Harford Community College. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). In addition, he completed religious studies with Kentucky College of Contemporary Religion and Covenant Bible College. Bishop Smith is currently attending Loyola University Maryland for a Master of Theological Studies.

Smith is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
