Schwaber Scholarship Recipients and Donors

11 July 2022

Longtime Harford Community College nursing scholarship donors Dr. David and Alena Schwaber established an endowment that funds nursing scholarships at Harford Community College in perpetuity. The Schwabers recently attended the Spring 2022 Nursing Class Pinning Ceremony for Harford Community College’s associate degree nursing graduates and had the opportunity to meet several of their scholarship recipients.

The endowed scholarships they established are awarded to nursing students beginning their third semester in the Associate of Science for Nursing program of study, who are enrolled at least half-time and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0+. A total of 20 students, ten in the fall semester and ten in the spring semester, are awarded scholarships each year. These students, who are known as Schwaber Scholars, wear a royal blue chord at their pinning ceremony.

For the Schwabers, the global pandemic highlighted the heroism of health care workers. They believe that, since students have chosen to enter a selfless field that gives back to the community, they should not have to pay for their education. The Schwabers’ hope is that others will follow their example and establish nursing scholarships at Harford Community College to fund the need for health care workers in our community.
