Fall Classes at Harford’s Leading Edge Training Center Powered by The Ratcliffe Foundation

Don’t miss out! Fall classes start soon at Harford Community College’s Leading Edge Training Center Powered by The Ratcliffe Foundation. The training center is located at the Edgewood Boys & Girls Club, 2002 Cedar Drive in Edgewood.

Information on Harford’s classes that are offered in Edgewood follows:

“Introduction to Heavy Equipment Operations” will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 14 to October 21, from 5:45 to 9:45 PM. This first of four core classes will provide a thorough introduction to the trade and cover heavy equipment safety, identification, and basic operational techniques including how to safely start, move, steer, stop and shut down different types of machines.

“Heavy Equipment Operations Site Work and Grading” will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, November 2 to December 9, from 5:30 to 9:45 PM. This course will prepare those interested in pursuing a career as a heavy equipment operator with introductory skills and knowledge of earth moving, grades, and utility tractors. It will also cover identification of construction stakes and interpretation of marks on each type of stake. This essential course will cover the duties and responsibilities of a heavy equipment operator.

“Fundamentals of Supply Chain Logistics” will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 21 to October 28, 6-9 PM. This module examines the role of supply chain logistics in the economy and in the operations of organizations. Fundamental review and analysis of the components of the supply chain are studied and examined. Topics include warehousing and distribution concepts, logistics and transportation concepts, customer service and order processing, hands-on workshops with bar code data collection systems and virtual warehouse. Career opportunities will be explored with possible tours at IKEA, Amazon or Rite Aid distribution centers.

"Warehousing and Distribution Center Solutions" will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, November 2 to December 14, 6-9 PM and will explain warehousing, customer service and how it can provide a competitive edge. Topics to be presented and discussed are facility layout and design, space utilization, order pick and pack process, material handling and storage, and operational best practices. Hands-on workshops with bar code data collection systems and virtual warehouse will be included.

Forklift Certification Training and Introduction to Construction Industry classes will be coming soon!

The Leading Edge Training Center is a new initiative in Edgewood led by the College to empower Harford County residents with the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to secure advanced careers in the construction trades, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, and logistics.
