Harford Community College Welcomes Back Students and Employees to Campus

01 July 2021

Harford Community College is pleased to announce that our campus is now open to students and employees. Effective July 1, 2021, the campus will welcome back students and employees to teach and learn on campus, with 50-60% of classes and services being held in-person. On August 17, the College will return to offering classes and services at 100% of its normal level of pre-pandemic on-campus operations.

Governor Larry Hogan announced that effective July 1, 2021, Maryland will lift the state of emergency, effectively ending all COVID-19 masking and social distancing mandates. Additionally, Harford County Health Officer Dr. David Bishai recently reported that the current vaccination rate for adults as of June 29, 2021 is 71.7% and the positivity rate remains under 1%.

Harford Community College will follow state and county recommendations, ending masking and social distancing requirements indoors and outdoors on campus, effective July 1, 2021. Anyone who does not feel safe and those who are not vaccinated should continue to wear a mask indoors for their own safety.

Over the past year, Harford Community College’s Campus Operations team completed campus-wide upgrades to air filtration systems and PPE, installing MERV-13 level filters in buildings for removing particulates, portable air purification units in small study rooms, classrooms, and meeting spaces. Additionally, reverse occupancy UV lighting to sanitize areas like elevators and bathrooms were installed, and permanent acrylic barriers were also placed in public areas.

“As it has been throughout the pandemic, the health and safety of our students and employees remain our top priority,” said Dr. Theresa B. Felder, Harford President. “We will continue to monitor local metrics and consult with the Harford County Health Department to make changes to our reopening plan, as necessary.”
