Maryland State Aid
Maryland awards over $100 million in need-based grants and merit scholarships through the state's 22 programs each year.
A variety of state scholarships are available to Maryland residents attending college in the state of Maryland. The FAFSA is used to apply for most Maryland state scholarships and must be filed prior to March 1. Application information may be obtained from the Office of Financial Aid. State grants are considered need-based aid and are awarded to students who do not have sufficient means to pay for college. A grant does not need to be re-paid and may be awarded from a variety of sources, including federal, state and institutional.
Often referred to as "Free Community College," information for this scholarship is available through the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Harford Community College also hosts a College Promise information session to provide a place for parents to learn and ask questions about this opportunity.
The Near Completer Grant offers a financial incentive to Maryland residents who started a degree but did not finish, by helping to pay their tuition.
To be eligible for the Rawlings Educational Assistance Grant, the student must have financial need, be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree seeking program in which all credits are required for your degree, and attend a Maryland post-secondary institution. To apply, complete the FAFSA by March 1. The minimum EAG is $400. This grant is renewable if FAFSA is completed by March 1 of each eligible year.
All Maryland State Senators offer a Senatorial Scholarship to Maryland residents pursuing
a postsecondary degree. These grants are offered through each individual state senator.
You are urged to complete a FAFSA/MSFAA every year before March 1st. Your FAFSA/MSFAA will determine your financial need. Some Senators do award without
the use of a FAFSA/MSFAA. Please contact the office of your state Senator from your
district in February for instructions on how to apply for this scholarship. Some exceptions
are made if the student is enrolling in a major that is not available in Maryland.
The minimum award is $400 and are renewable for up to four years provided the student
maintains satisfactory academic progress. Student must be enrolled for a minimum of
6 credits to receive grant. This grant is renewable each year.

All Maryland State Delegates offer a Delegate Scholarship to Maryland residents pursuing
a postsecondary degree. These grants are offered through each individual state delegate.

the use of a FAFSA/MSFAA. Please contact the office of your state Delegate from your
district in February for instructions on how to apply for this scholarship. Some exceptions

Student must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits to receive grant. You must re-apply
for this grant each year.

This grant is offered to students that have financial need as determined by completing a FAFSA/MSFAA. The grant is offered to students enrolled 3-11 credits in a degree seeking program in which all of their credits are require for their degree. Both student and parent, if a dependent student, must be a resident of Maryland. Minimum for this grant is $200.00. Funds for this grant are limited.
