Dual Enrollment and Academic Progression

Harford Community College’s nursing program offers dual enrollment options which allow nursing students to take courses toward a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree while they are enrolled in the Associate degree nursing program at HCC.

These options give nursing students a head start on the attainment of a BSN and can decrease completion time!

Current dual enrollment partners:

  • Towson University ATB option
  • Frostburg State University ATB option- now accepting students for Spring 2018!

Nursing Student Leadership Workshop

Students attending the "Nursing Student Leadership Workshop" on April 14, 2017 participated in a panel discussion with nursing graduates which was moderated by Donna Meyer MSN, RN, ANEF, FAADN (CEO of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing).

Professional Development Opportunities

One of the core concepts of Harford Community College's nursing program is professional practice: "The nurse is personally accountable, and practices within legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks. The goals of professional practice are to maintain competence with continual learning and maintain a professional image that reflects a core of professional values: respect, confidence, trust, responsiveness, integrity, and compassion" (from the Nursing Student Handbook).

In congruence with this core concept, nursing students at Harford Community College are given the opportunity to attend professional nursing conferences and workshops. Attendance is sponsored through the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) Nurse Support Program II (NSP II). The goal is to increase an understanding of the importance of lifelong learning and academic progression to professional practice. While attending these events, nursing students are able to network with nursing professionals, potential employers, representatives from universities, and student peers.

  • Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) Annual Convention: 158 nursing students from Harford Community College and Cecil College attended on October 13th, 2016. Students were asked to rate their experience through a survey. See the results of the survey here.
  • Maryland Association of Nursing Students (MANS) Annual Convention: 23 students from Harford Community College attended on March 18, 2017. Students were asked to rate their experience through a survey. See the results of the survey here.
  • Nursing Student Leadership Annual Workshops: 94 nursing students from Harford Community College, Cecil College, and other MD community colleges attended the inaugural workshop on April 14, 2017. Students were asked to rate their experience through a survey. See the results of the survey here.

Learn what some of the students had to say about their experience at these events by reading quotes from the open-ended portion of the surveys here.

Professional development opportunities are sponsored by the Maryland Higher Education Commission Nurse Support II program (NSP II grant 16-111). Find out more about MHEC's NSP II program here.
