A woman of profound wisdom and generosity.

It is with a heavy heart that Harford Community College mourns the passing of Virginia Pate Wetter. Dr. Pate Wetter was a pioneer among women, challenging the popular notion of what a leader looks like. Her remarkable success in broadcasting, higher education, politics—and in life itself—inspires us all.

It was my distinct honor to meet with Virginia on several occasions over the past two years. She was a woman of profound wisdom and generosity both; I will never forget the kindness she showed me as a newcomer to Harford County and to HCC.

It is impossible to fully articulate the debt our institution owes to Dr. Virginia Pate Wetter. Her service to the College—first as a founding member and chairwoman of the Board of Trustees, later as a member of the HCC Foundation Board—was beyond compare. The continued success of Harford Community College is just a small part of Dr. Pate Wetter’s own rich legacy: without her guidance, support, and advocacy, HCC could not be what it is today.

Our thoughts are with Virginia’s family and friends—along with the countless others whose lives she touched over so many years. I speak for everyone at Harford Community College when I say that we count ourselves profoundly fortunate and forever grateful for having known Virginia.
