GED Completers at Harford Community College

19 July 2021

Harford Community College is pleased to announce that 70 students were GED® Completers in 2020 and 2021. A Maryland High School Diploma is awarded to those passing all four modules of the GED® exams. Due to the campus closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, GED® graduation ceremonies were not held.

The College’s Adult Literacy program offers instruction in English as a Second Language and GED preparation. Adult learners in the English as a Second Language program transition to GED® preparation classes with a goal to earn a high school diploma and enroll in post-secondary education programs.

The program participants enrolled in a nine-week GED® Preparation course in Math and/or Reading and Writing to acquire the skills necessary to pass the GED® exam. Each student required a minimum passing score of 145 on the Math, Science, Social Studies and Reasoning thru Language Arts exams.

There is also an option for students to dually enroll in the Integrated Education and Training program, allowing them to enroll in a math course and Forklift Certification course. Those who choose this option can earn a diploma and workforce development certification simultaneously.

Students who completed the GED® in 2020 and 2021 at HCC included Monica Boesch, Jessica Bolan, Jessica Cook, Brittany Cullum, Toni Custer, Vanessa Doche, Matthew Edwards, Herman Fischer Jr., Ryan Glassman, Angeles Gonzalez-Morales, Abby Gray, Annika Holm, Jabrile Johnson, Peter Knight, Dylan Piper, Diana Skaggs, Brianna Taylor, Linh Truong, and Brandon Wallace. Some GED completers wished to remain anonymous. The College community offers its enthusiastic congratulations on the achievement of all the completers on earning their Maryland High School Diplomas!

Darryl Rogers, Director of Adult Development & Literacy Programs, oversees Harford’s Adult Literacy Program. The program is funded by the Maryland Department of Labor. The College plans to hold the next GED® graduation ceremony in 2022.
