Setting Up Web Folders

First, make sure you have contacted your department head or division dean to request a webspace, or to request access to an existing webspace.  Once the request has been made, and the space has been set up on our server, follow the procedures below to connect to the webspace. If you are not able to connect, contact the Webmaster to have your account and permissions checked. Once you are connected to your webspace, you may move on to learning How to Use FrontPage.

You may connect to your webspace using one of two methods.  You may either set up a web folder with your operating system, or connect directly with Microsoft Frontpage.  Setting up a web folder is the more advanced technique.

Setting up a web folder (Advanced)

This approach is more advanced, and the process depends on which operating system you are using.  Select the links below to follow the instructions for your operating system.
Windows XP | Windows 2000 | Windows 98 | Windows Vista | Windows 7

Connecting to your webspace with Microsoft Frontpage

1. Open Microsoft Frontpage.

2.
From the menu bar, select File > Open Site...
3.
Enter the Web site address you would like to Edit in the Site name box, and click Open.

Example 1: http://www.harford.edu/<department>
(Where <department> is the name of your department folder on the web site . If you are connecting to a web site address that is not your department folder, this address will vary.)
Example 2: http://www.harford.edu/faculty/<username>
(Where <username> is the name of your faculty folder on the web site . If you are connecting to a web site address that is not your faculty folder, this address will vary.)

4.
It will prompt you for your Novell username and password. Enter your Novell User Name as HCC\<username> where <username> is your username. Enter your Novell Password and click OK. (This is the same username and password you use to login to your computer at work.)
5. The subweb should open up into your Microsoft Frontpage.  Double click a file to edit that web page.  After you connect to the website the first time, you will be able to select the website from the recent sites list to edit it in the future.
