Support for Military and Veterans

Stephen HarperHarford Community College has many resources available for military, veterans, and their dependents. We have collected as many of these resources as possible in one place to help you locate them easily.

Harford seeks to create an enhanced learning environment by providing military, veterans, and their dependents with support and resources in a friendly atmosphere. Harford strives to address the unique issues and challenges that these students face when entering the college environment.

Harford Community College is a member of the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) and received the Military Friendly School award. Harford is approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Military to process educational benefit claims for Military and Veteran students, as well as their qualifying dependents. For more information on how to request these benefits, students should review the information located on HCC's Support for Military & Veterans Services web page. Information and forms required to process educational claims can be found on this web page. Students receiving VA educational benefits are responsible for the payment of all tuition, fees and text books according to the College billing dates and/or VA regulations. Charges for these items will not be deferred because VA checks have not been received by the student. VA students are required to adhere to the standards of academic progress in order to remain eligible for educational benefits. Questions regarding the processing of educational benefits should be directed to the Coordinator for Military and Veterans Services. Students should consult the VA website for specfic information about VA educational benefits.

Students Called to Active Duty

Harford works with military students called to active duty to help make the transition as seamless as possible. Students simply need to submit a copy of their orders along with the Credit Schedule Change form to the Registration and Records office.

Military & Veterans Area

A special area of the Student Center has been designated for use by students who are veterans of the military or on active duty. This area is located in the lower level of the Student Center and requires swipe access with a student ID. For more information about the Military & Veterans Area, email Sharon Adams .

Veterans Club

The Veterans Club is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) that was formed to serve HCC student veterans, HCC military students, and military spouses and children enrolled at HCC by providing an organization to promote the needs and interests of veterans and their families. Meetings, guest speakers, trips and other activities provide a place to meet both formally and socially, provide information and foster an environment of mutual support to those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. Anyone interested in participating and/or taking on a leadership position in the organization can contact Bill Elliott, club advisor or contact Sharon Adams from the Office of Student Activities.

Office Locations

In an effort to better serve and assist our military and veteran students, HCC has established two office locations. One location is on Campus and the other is located at Aberdeen Picture of flagsProving Ground (APG). Both locations are full-service centers where students can complete the enrollment process from start to finish.
These services include:

  • applying for enrollment to HCC
  • academic advising
  • registering for credit courses
  • academic skills assessment
