Soar2Success Program

Soar2Success offers resources to the campus community on topics of diversity and multiculturalism. 

Social and cultural activities highlight the African American experience. Travel to conferences, area colleges, museums, and other points of interest are offered for ‘Road Scholars’. Regional and national guest speakers present topics ranging from popular culture to social justice. Events, activities and resources are open to all members of the campus community. Video and library resources are available.

Programs

     Time Management Workshop:

Start your semester by getting organized and creating a schedule that allows you to get it all done!  At these session, you'll learn key time management skills to help you start your college career on the right foot. 
Choose one of the following sessions:

  • Tuesday, October 10th
  • Wednesday, October 11th

 All Sessions @ 1PM or 5PM in the Student Center, Room 113.  Lunch/Dinner will be served. 

Con Mucho Sabor "With a LOT of Flavor"

A bi-weekly meeting where everyone is welcome to join in on the conversation!

  • Wednesday, September 27th at 9:30am, 11:30am & 1:30pm at the Chesapeake Theater
    "Latino Beyond Reel" - Documentary: The film shows how a narrow rang of misrepresentation, combined with hate speech against documented immigrants and Latinos, had devastating consequences for this nation as a whole. 
  • Friday, October 13th at 12:30pm in the Student Center, Room 113
    Topic of Discussion: "More Than Taco, Rice and Beans"
  • Wednesday, October 25th at 12:30pm in the Student Center, Room 113
    Topic of Discussion: "More Than Your Last Name"
  • Wednesday, November 8 at 12:30pm in the Student Center, Room 113
    "Black in Latin America" - Documentary: In the Dominican Republic, Professor Gates explores how race has been socially constructed in a society whose people reflect centuries of inter-marriage, and how the country's troubled history with Haiti informs notions about racial classifications. 
  • Tuesday, November 21st at 12:30pm in the Student Center, Room 113
    Movie: Tita and Pedro want to get married, but Tita has to take care of hr ageing mother and is not allowed to marry.  Pedro ends up marrying Tita's sister, but lets Tita know he only married her sister to be closer to her.  When Tita is forced to make the wedding cake and guests at the wedding are overcome with sadness. 

Road Scholar

Travel to conferences and colleges and present at community organizations and earn extra credit. Become engaged in learning and networking.
