The College President, the Board of Trustees, and the employees of Harford Community College invite you to participate in a Commencement Ceremony. These prestigious events occur in May each year and are held in the APG Federal Credit Union Arena.

If you are not attending the Commencement ceremony:

  • You do not need to take any action. Graduates are notified via postcard when diplomas are available for pick up.

If you are attending the Commencement ceremony:

  • Reservation for Commencement and Cap and Gown Link will be available April 1, 2020.
  • Link to claim guest tickets for Commencement will be made available April 1, 2020.

Graduation Requirements

August 2019 and December 2019 graduates received prior notification regarding the status of their degree or certificate and have met all graduation requirements. May 2020 candidates must have applied for graduation by the March 1, 2020 application deadline and received confirmation of their intent to graduate.


Invitations to participate in the Commencement Ceremony will be mailed by April 9 to students who graduated in August 2019, December 2019 or who have applied for May 2020 graduation. If you have moved, please update Registration and Records with your new mailing address via OwlNet.


This year, students who plan to attend Commencement will be given limited tickets for their guests.

Ceremony Information: Day of the Event

The ceremony will last approximately 2.5 hours. All graduates will start in the Auxiliary Gym. Allow for 3 hours for the entire ceremony. You will be given additional information about the ceremony in the Commencement Guide you receive when you pick up you academic regalia at the College Store.

On the day of the Commencement ceremony, report to the Susquehanna Auxiliary Gym between 4 PM and 5 PM where College employees will assist you with robing. Graduates will only be allowed to enter Susquehanna at the doors adjacent to Fighting Owls Blvd (across from the Chesapeake Center). If you arrive after 5 PM, you forfeit the opportunity to participate in the graduate processional.

Important Note: The College assumes no liability for lost or stolen personal items. Personal items cannot be stored in the Auxiliary Gym during the ceremony.

Registration and Records

  • Pick up your regalia from the College Store on the lower level of the Student Center (dates above). Call 443-412-2209 if you need assistance.
  • The College has purchased your regalia for you. If you need replacement regalia the day of the ceremony, you will be charged $35.
  • You must wear your regalia to participate in the Commencement ceremony. The regalia includes your cap, gown, tassel, and associates hood (black, blue & white), which you will receive from the College Store. 
  • The College holds Commencement to celebrate the academic achievements of all the graduates.  We ask that you recognize it as a formal and prestigious occasion and to hold the event in proper perspective. Medallions, stoles, and cords are reserved for academic and military recognition and the following societies: Alpha Delta Nu, Delta Alpha Pi, Lambda Epsilon Chi, Mu Alpha Theta, Phi Theta Kappa, and Psi Beta.
  • Harford Community College does not encourage the decoration or messaging of caps at the Commencement ceremony.  If you choose to do this, please do it tastefully and with respect for the dignity of this prestigious occasion.
  • Following the ceremony, you may recycle your regalia or retain it as a keepsake.
  • Graduates park in Lots L, E, or A.
  • Report to the Auxiliary Gym for check-in and robing between 4 pm and 5 pm.
  • Graduates who arrive after 5 pm will not be able to participate.
  • The ceremony will last approximately 2.5 hours.
  • Personal items cannot be stored during the ceremony.
  • Tickets are required; seating is available on a first-come, first serve basis.  Fire Code regulations limit occupancy of the APGFCU Arena.  Guest seating is limited to 2,300.  When capacity is reached, the Department of Public Safety will prohibit additional guests from entering the Arena.  
  • Guests may begin arriving at 4 PM.
  • Guest park in C, T, and S Lots.
  • Arena entrance doors will be locked at 6 PM for the student procession and will reopen once the procession concludes.
  • Balloons and strollers are prohibited in the Arena.
  • Smoking and tobacco products are prohibited.
  • Phones and electronic devices must be silenced during the ceremony.

  • Child-care services are not available for this event.
  • Children may not accompany graduates during robing or the ceremony.
  • Children attending the ceremony must be supervised by an adult.

Guests with Disabilities

  • For easy access, guests with disabilities should use Entrance 1 and park in front of the Arena.
  • Designated parking for vehicles bearing valid Motor Vehicle Association (MVA) disability parking placards or license plates is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Sign language interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing will be present.
  • Service animals are welcome in the Arena, must remain with the guest, and must not block aisles.
  • Disability-related questions may be directed to Disability Support Services at 443-412-2402.

International Guests

Students requesting invitation letters for family members obtaining a VISA to attend the Commencement Ceremony should contact Registration and Records ( Please include the following information:

Children are welcome to attend the ceremony as guests and must be properly supervised by an adult during their time on campus. Child-care services are not available for this event. Children are not permitted to accompany graduates while robing or during the ceremony.

Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices

All cell phones and other electronic devices must be silenced during the ceremony until all graduates have recessed from the Arena at the end of the ceremony.

Smoking/Tobacco Use

Harford Community College is a smoke and tobacco free environment. The use of any type of tobacco product, smoking device or equipment, or any item that simulates smoking (i.e., e-cigarettes, vaping) is prohibited.
