Loans

Direct Loans are a Title IV financial aid program and federal aid eligibility requirements apply.  Loan applicants must be actively enrolled half-time (6 credits or more).   They are called "Direct" because the funds come directly from the U.S. Department of Education.  Harford Community College offers Direct and Parent PLUS loans for students' educational expenses.

Direct Loan Application Process

  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • Download and complete the Borrower Packet (New loan borrowers at HCC must complete the First Time Borrower Packet)
  • A Loan Counselor will review your request once packet has been submitted to the HCC Financial Aid Department.
  • First Time Borrowers at HCC will be contacted to schedule a Group Loan Counseling session.
  • Repeat Borrowers at HCC will receive an Award Letter and Disbursement Schedule in the mail once the request is reviewed.

Parent PLUS Loan

The Parent PLUS Loan is a non- need based educational loan for parents of undergraduate dependent students.  Parents may borrow up to the student's yearly cost of attendance minus all other aid the student has received.

Alternative/Private Loan

Harford Community College does not have a preferred lender arrangement.  Please contact the financial institution of your choice to obtain an alternative/private education loan. Note: The total requested amount of the loan may not exceed your total cost of attendance minus any other aid awarded.  Students are strongly encouraged to apply for all Federal Aid including Direct Loans before applying for Alternative loans.
