One-On-One Research Consultations

Need help with a research project?
Schedule an appointment with a Librarian for a One-on-One Research Consultation!

What can you expect from this consultation?
The librarian will provide individual help (up to 1 hour at a time) with library research, either virtually (via online chat - NEW!) or in-person.
Things we help with include:

Topic selection and refinement
Selecting and using appropriate research tools and sources
Choosing effective search terms
Citation creation

Please note: for help with the actual production of the paper, including outlining, proof-reading, and paper formatting, contact the Tutoring Center in Fallston Hall, Room 103, 443-412-2429.

How is it different from help at the Reference Desk?

A consultation gives us the opportunity to work with one student without interruption.
We ask for information about your project in advance so we can think about the best sources to use before you come in.
If you don't want to take time for a consultation, come to the Reference Desk and ask for help. We're glad to give it.

How do I sign up?

Describe your research project, including the specific topic you are researching. If possible, please bring a copy of the assignment requirements with you to the consultation.


Please describe any work you have done so far and/or any resources you have already consulted. Also, if you have searched the databases, which ones have you tried, and what keywords have you used?


What are the requirements for your paper? (Dates for materials used, # of pages for the paper? etc.)


The service is available 8-5 M-Th and 8-3 on Friday. List at least 3 dates and times you are available to meet. Please request dates at least one week in advance.
