Mission & Goals

Mission

The Information Literacy (IL) Program at Harford Community College Library aims to support and improve the information literacy skills of members of the College community by providing a variety of Services and Resources for students, staff, and faculty.

Goals

Information Literacy is one of Harford Community College’s eight Academic Outcomes that students develop through their coursework and other educational experiences at HCC.

The HCC Library’s IL Program goals are based on the Association of College and Research Libraries Standards. We aim to increase the ability of each member of the HCC Community to:

  1. Determine the nature and extent of the information needed.
  2. Access needed information effectively and efficiently.
  3. Evaluate information and its sources critically and incorporate selected information into his or her knowledge base and value system.
  4. Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose.
  5. Access and use information ethically and legally.
