Information Assurance and CyberSecurity

Program Description

This degree program prepares students to enter the high demand field of information systems security. With the increase of viruses and other security breeches, companies need professionals who can protect their data and equipment from internal and external security threats. Students in this program gain hands-on experience with the latest hardware and software and learn to implement appropriate information security policies and procedures. Students planning to transfer should select electives according to the requirements of the receiving institution.


Information Technology Employment Information

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts increased growth through 2012 for computer support specialists due to the integration of sophisticated technologies and the need to implement security measures. A wide variety of job opportunities include technical support specialists, help-desk technicians, computer security specialists, and systems administrators.


Student Activities

In addition to general education requirements for the Associate of Applied Science, students will complete courses in Information Science (CIS 102), Introduction to Business (BA 101), Information Systems Security (CISCO), Network Security (CIS 210), Computer Operating Systems (CIS 104), Windows Server Operating System (CIS 211), Strategic Infrastructure Security (ISS 220), Network Defense and Countermeasures (ISS 221), and Project Management (BA 225).

To provide realistic applications of learning and further prepare students for this challenging career, students will complete lab projects using CISCO routers and utilize simulations to understand system security issues, system vulnerabilities and system intrusion detection.
