Reference & Instruction Librarian
(Part-time)

Starting Hourly Rate Range:  $17.69 - $19.77

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Harford Community College is seeking an energetic, customer service-oriented individual to join our library staff.  Responsibilities include providing reference/research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons; assisting library patrons in using technology resources; and teaching information literacy/library instruction sessions.  The reference librarian  also assists in the development of online user guides and in collection development.

Work schedule is approximately 20 hours per week, with at least one or two evenings per week and five to six weekend days per semester. 
 

 REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or in a closely related field and one year experience in library reference, preferably in an academic library setting, required.  One year of library instruction experience is strongly preferred.

Applicants must have knowledge of reference service principles and information literacy competency standards; knowledge of basic software applications, including Microsoft Office; and familiarity with online databases, catalogs, and other library resources.  Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team environment are required.
