TUTORING AT HCC: Tutoring is an academic support service provided to students enrolled in credit and transitional studies courses at HCC. Our services consist of the  Communications Skills Center, Math Center, Supplemental Instruction, and group and individual tutoring.  The Communications Skills Center provides free, walk-in tutoring for writing, reading, and presentations. The Math Center provides free, walk-in tutoring for math courses and other courses with a significant mathematical component. Supplemental Instruction is a free group tutorial offered for courses known to be historically difficult. Individual and group tutoring are offered on a limited basis for students demonstrating an academic need.
 
DESCRIPTION:

Tutors conduct individualized, small group, walk-in, and/or Supplemental Instruction tutoring for credit students and help students develop study skills.

Harford Community College is seeking tutors for the following academic areas: 

  • Behavioral and Social Sciences
  • Business, Computing, and Applied Technology
  • English and Communications Studies
  • Nursing and Allied Health
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

Compensation:

  • Peer Tutor (undergraduate coursework):  $9.21 per hour
  • Master Tutor (associate's degree):  $12.11 per hour
  • Professional Tutor (bachelor's degree or beyond):  $14.88 per hour

These are part-time, hourly, non-exempt staff positions.  Applicants must be willing to work a varied schedule of day, evening, and weekend hours.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of at least six credits of college level courses; demonstrated mastery of subject area, with at least a B average; and excellent communication skills are required.  Prior tutoring experience and ability to work with diverse groups are preferred.   

Any offer of employment at Harford Community College is contingent upon the results of a mandatory background screening.  Employees must submit within 30 days of hire official transcripts of all degrees earned.
