Changes & Updates to GI Bill Education Benefits

  • Be sure to check the VA website regularly for updates to benefit information

  • To check your personal information, click the link for ebenefits

Important Information

August 1, 2011

  • The VA will no longer pay benefits or break periods (time between semesters/terms)—please budget your funds accordingly

  • VA will only pay in-state tuition for Post 9/11 benefits—students will need to fund the difference between the in-state and out-of state tuition (at HCC it is $82 per credit hour)

  • Active Duty members will receive the book stipend for Post 9/11

  • Voc Rehab students eligible for Post 9/11 may elect to receive BAH instead of the ch 31 stipend (see your Voc Rehab counselor)

  • Post 9/11 BAH will be pro-rated based on enrollment (9 credits = ¾ time = 75% which would be rounded up to 80%--student would receive 80% of eligible amount)

October 1, 2011

  • Post 9/11  BAH may be paid for distance only learning—all online—at ½ the national average (673.50 for 2011)—classes must start on or after 10/1/11

  • Title 32 may apply for Post 9/11 retroactively to 8/1/09

  • Non College Degree Programs and OJT are eligible for Post 9/11 benefits
