Hello! I’m Laura Hutton, an assistant professor in the educational studies division. I teach classes for the early childhood education and the teacher education transfer programs. I started teaching full time at HCC during the fall of 2004. I have also been an adjunct faculty member in the early childhood education department at Towson University since 1998.

My experience teaching children includes five years with Harford County Public Schools and seven years with the Forbush School, a private special education school in Towson. I have taught children aged 3-13 both with and without disabilities. I am particularly interested in preparing children for the future through authentic instruction, community-based learning, pre-vocational instruction, and the teaching of independent living skills. I believe strongly in forming strong relationships with families and involving them in the educational process.

I am native to Harford County and am a graduate of the public school system. My husband, Mark, and I have six children. We have been foster parents since 2000 and our children have joined our family through birth, adoption, and foster care. Foster parenting has expanded my understanding of child development, particularly the development of healthy attachments and the impact of attachment difficulties on children’s behavior.

I hope to share my passion for children with you!
