Physical Therapy

As a physical therapy technician you will work under the supervision of Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants to help provide the best possible therapy for the patient.

As a part of the rehabilitation team, you will move patients to and from treatment areas, assist patients with their treatment plans and exercise programs, maintain a clean and organized work environment, perform routine clerical duties, order supplies, answer the phone, and fill out paper work including insurance. 

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the 2015 median pay for a Physical Therapy Technician was $25,120 per year. Employment is expected to grow 40% from 2015-2024, faster than the national average.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED*
  • Reading (ACR) and Math (ACA) Assessments** (must be completed prior to registering for classes)
  • Health Assessment, including immunization record (due prior to externship placement)
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification (class offered first Saturday of every month; due prior to externship placement)

First Set of Courses (completed in any order):

  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Computer Basics for Allied Health
  • HIPAA Compliance (online) ed2go
  • Healthcare Provider CPR

Career Courses:

  • Become a Physical Therapy Aide (available through ed2go)
  • Physical Therapy Technician Externship (The Clinical Coordinator arranges start date and placement with each student. Evening and weekend hours not available.  It may take up to 6 months for students to be placed at an externship site.)

Approximate cost of the program is $1,220, not including textbooks.
