Prepare for National Certification as a Dental Assistant

Interested in working in a dental office? Complete this intense training program and gain the knowledge and skill needed to work in a dental office as an entry-level dental assistant, receptionist, front office assistant, or back office assistant. Topics include dental terminology, disease transmission, disinfection and sterilization, dental anatomy, dental records and charting, instrumentation, impressions and castings, radiation health and safety, insurance and billing' and front desk responsibilities. This program also includes x-ray training that qualifies you to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiation Health and Safety Examination.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the 2015 median pay for Dental Assistants was $35,980 per year. Employment is expected to grow 18% from 2015-2024, faster than the national average.

Dental Assistant Program Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED*
  • Successfully pass Reading (ACR) and Math (ACA) Assessments, available at the Test Center (must be completed prior to registering)
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification (due prior to externship placement; class held first Saturday of every month)
  • Health Assessment, including immunization record (due prior to externship placement)
  • Scrubs provided, but must purchase HCC patch at College Store

Career Courses:

  • Dental Assistant Training** (88 hours)
  • Dental Assistant Externship (20 hours)
    The Clinical Coordinator arranges start date and placement with each student. Evening and weekend hours not available. It may take up to 6 months for students to be placed at an externship site.

Approximate cost of the program: $3,188 plus required textbook.
