Each semester HCC plans an array of travel destinations ranging from lectures on our campus, to one-day adventures, to multi-day getaways, to international travel experiences.

Things you should know:

  • Seats are assigned by date registration is received.
  • Each person traveling needs to complete a registration form (PDF) and a liability form with emergency contact information (PDF) for each tour.
  • Letters of confirmation are sent 7-10 days prior to departure.
  • Refunds are not available after tickets/meals are purchased unless a substitute can be found.

Day 1

  • 7:00 a.m. departure from HCC
  • Lunch and comfort stops en route
  • Mystic Seaport Museum tour
  • Check-in at Holiday Inn Express in Middletown, RI, for a total of three nights
    The property features large, contemporary rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, and a fitness center. There are two restaurants adjacent to the hotel. Downtown Newport and the harbor are only three minutes away.
  • Dinner in Newport (included)

Day 2

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Guided tour of Bristol, a historic community surrounded by water
  • Ride through Colt State Park and enjoy sweeping views of Narragansett Bay
    Tour Blithewold, one of the finest garden estates in New England with a spectacular setting overlooking the ocean
  • Garden highlights include the Rose Garden, the Giant Sequoia, the Water Garden, the Rock Garden, and the Bamboo Grove
  • Relax and enjoy lunch in Bristol overlooking the bay (included)
  • Self-guided tour of the Green Animals Topiary Gardens
  • Free time for shopping and dinner on your own in Newport
  • Return to the hotel for the evening

Day 3

  • Breakfast included at hotel
  • Narrated driving tour of Newport’s famous scenic routes: Bellevue Avenue lined with magnificent summer cottages and Ten Mile Ocean Drive with opulent estates and breathtaking ocean views
  • Tour Rosecliff, the site of fabulous parties hosted by silver heiress Tessie Oelrichs and the setting for several movies including The Great Gatsby, True Lies, Amistad, and 27 Dresses
  • Lunch on your own and free time to enjoy Newport’s shops, boutiques, and galleries
  • One-hour narrated cruise of Newport that takes you past beautiful islands; under the breathtaking Jamestown and Newport Bridges; and past mansions, historic Fort Adams, and many other famous Rhode Island sights
  • Dinner included in Newport overlooking the Harbor

Day 4

  • Breakfast included at hotel
  • Check out and depart hotel
  • Admission and self-guided tour of The Breakers—considered the grandest of Newport’s summer cottages
  • Comfort, lunch and dinner stops en route as needed
  • 8 p.m. approximate return to Harford Community College
