Chesapeake Gallery

The Chesapeake Gallery at Harford Community College features contemporary art by emerging and established artists as well as HCC faculty and students.

Located in the Student Center, the Chesapeake Gallery is the only exhibition space of its kind between Baltimore and Newark. It serves as a vital educational link between the community and the practice of art and design in the region.

Poems from the Mountains

Local artist and HCC adjunct faculty member, Bart O’Reilly, will be having a solo exhibition from Friday, March 3rd – Sunday, April 2nd in the Chesapeake Gallery with an opening reception on Thursday March 9th from 5:30-7PM.

O’Reilly states, “The work comes from impulse. A desire to capture something as quickly and effectively as possible before moving on to the next set of unknowable circumstances. Not to act on the impulse means the next day the painting or the poem will be something entirely different. This is why most of these paintings and writings are the result of one intensive session. To revisit them without the impulse is a redundancy. They are intricately bound up in the now, the instantaneous, the desire to articulate, the personal, perceptions of the external and the potential mixtures of all of these intensities. How they move, rise and fall, become captured then released, become color, line and verse. Forget and remember their original intention, then leave a door open for the next moment, always in a state of becoming.”
