What is Network+ Certification?

CompTIA says, Network+ validates the knowledge and skills of networking professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that recognizes a technician's ability to describe the features and functions of networking components and to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Network+ candidates have at least nine months of experience in network support or administration or adequate academic training, along with a CompTIA A+ certification. .

Why should I get certified?

It helps students get a foot in the door with either a prospective employer or client. It lets others know your achievement level, and many employers may use certification as either a condition for employment or reward certifications earned with job advancement or promotions.

What kind of jobs can I qualify for and what salary can I expect?

Upon obtaining your certification, you can qualify for a number of positions depending upon your background:

PC Repair Technician

 $28,092-$43,342

LAN Support

 $33,140-$44,054

Help Desk Support

 $32,844-$42,083

See www.salary.com for more information

Where do I get a job? Will you provide assistance?

Harford Community College offers counseling and assistance in your job search. Advisors are available to help current students and graduates with resume development and interview skills. Visit the Academic Advising and Transfer Services website or contact them at 443-412-2301.

How long is the Network+ program? What will I learn?

The Network+ program is designed to allow an A+ certified (or equivalent) technician to become a network support technician. There is one course that prepares students for certification. This hands-on course covers every aspect of PC networks, from basic cable installation through advanced system configuration.  The course can be completed in under a month or up to three months, depending on the course schedule selected.

Network+ Exam Requirements and Certificate

The Network+ exams are written by CompTIA (Computer Technology Industry Association). Certification is awarded for successful completion of the examination, and not for completion of preparation courses. There are no further Network+ education requirements or exams once the student has become certified. For more information on scheduling exams, visit www.2test.com.

What are the Prerequisites?

This certification program requires that students either be A+ certified or have PC repair experience. Students interested in enrolling in this program should attend Computer Counseling Night held at the beginning of the Fall semester. Counseling Night is FREE to the public and instructors will be available to answer questions.

I’m still not sure the computer field is for me. What should I do?
