Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are there any application fees?

A. No, you do not have to submit an application fee in order to apply for enrollment. In addition, the assessment test to determine academic placement offered for new students is also free of charge.

Q. If I’ve already taken classes at HCC do I have to reapply?

A. If it has been more than 2 years since you were an HCC student, you will need to reapply. This can be done in the Admissions Office in the Student Center or online. If you have been an HCC student within the past two years, you do not have to reapply. In this case, you should instead with meet an academic advisor prior to registering for classes.

Q. Do you require SAT, ACT or TOEFL test scores for admission?

A. No, HCC does not require SAT, ACT or TOEFL standardized test scores for admission. However, a student who has taken the SAT or TOEFL and scored within a particular range will not be required to take the assessment test to determine academic placement for new students. Q. What if I want to apply to the nursing program?

A. Applying to the Nursing program requires the completion of the HCC enrollment application, as well as a separate application for the Nursing program once the stated prerequisites have been obtained. Click here for more information about the Nursing program’s application process.

Q.What if I have previous college experience?

A. Harford Community College welcomes previous college experience. In order for your prior college experience to be considered for earned college credit, you must submit an official transcript from the previous college(s) to Records and Registration for evaluation. It will also be helpful to have a copy of any previous college transcripts during your initial meeting with an academic advisor.

Q.What if I just finished high school or earned my GED?

A. You are prepared to begin classes at HCC if you have completed high school or earned your GED. Simply apply online or visit the Admissions Office in the Student Center to complete an application and to speak with an admissions specialist about the College’s enrollment steps.

Q.What if I’m an international student?

A. Harford Community College welcomes international students. The process for applying to the College varies based upon a student’s visa status. For more information about international admission, click here or call Jenny Lares at 443-412-2423.
