Histology deals with the structure of cells and their formation into tissues and organs. Histology technicians (HTs) prepare sections of body tissue for microscopic examination by pathologists or other medical scientists.
Graduates from HCC’s Histotechnology Online Training Program may enroll in the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Technical/Professional Studies degree, Histotechnology/Science concentration, and receive an A.A.S. degree upon the successful completion of the required coursework.
Technicians usually need an associate’s degree or a postsecondary certificate. Some states require technologists and technicians to be licensed or registered.
The median annual wage of histology technicians was $56,988 in 2010. Employment is expected to grow by 15 percent between 2010 and 2020.
