Government Documents

The Library has been a selective depository library in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) since 1967.

We receive government publications from the U.S. Government Publishing Office through the FDLP in various formats. We are one of 62 selective depository libraries in Maryland, Delaware, and D.C. that fall under the Regional Depository Library at the University of Maryland.

Locating Government Publications

  • Print and DVD government documents are integrated with the Main Collection on the third floor, and with the Reference and Legal Collections on the second floor using the Library of Congress Classification. Some are also in our Periodicals Collection on the second floor, and are alphabetized by periodical title. You can visit our library catalog to locate print materials, or stop at the Reference Desk to ask for assistance.
  • Electronic government documents can be found in the library catalog. The catalog record will display a web address which will link you out to the full text. Look for the “Read it Now” links. You can also find articles relating to government information using our online databases and selecting the subject area "Government & Political Science" from the drop down menu.
  • Microfiche and CD-Rom documents are located on the second floor in the Media Room behind the Circulation Desk. Ask at the Circulation Desk for assistance in retrieving and using them.
  • Reliable websites may also be of use! Access a selection of Web Sources below:
