Recalling Checked Out Materials

Recalling Checked Out Items:

HCC Credit students and Employees are eligible to recall items checked out to HCC Employees to have that item returned earlier than the due date. The library reserves the right to decline to recall materials which are on special check out status. If an item is due up to 14 days from the request date, Circulation staff will assist you in placing a Request on the item instead of a Recall.

  1. Complete the form at the Circulation Desk.
  2. Present your HCC ID to Circulation staff. Staff will verify eligibility.
  3. A Recall will override any preceding holds placed on the material through the request function, but it will not override any preceding Recall requests.
  4. The original borrower will be notified by email that an item checked out has been recalled. Borrowers have 14 days from the date of the recall notification to return recalled materials.
  5. Patrons recalling an item will be contacted when the item is returned by email or telephone. The recalled item will be held at the Circulation Desk for up to 7 days.

Placing a Hold on Checked Out Items:

All borrowers are eligible to place a hold on a checked out item by using the Request feature in the library catalog.

  1. Complete a search for an item.
  2. Click on Find It to see if the item is available.
  3. If the item is checked out, click on the Request It button.
  4. Login to My Account using your library barcode or username and pin.
  5. Click on Submit Request.

You will be notified by email or phone when the item you requested is available.
