HIST 263: Special Topics - History of Ireland: This 3-credit course will introduce students to the story of Ireland beginning in 500 CE and continuing into the present day. It explores such topics as empire, famine, rebellion, race, religion and terrorism and ends with an independent and modern (though divided) Ireland in the 21st century. Attention will also be accorded to the Irish diaspora throughout the English-speaking world (and especially to North America) since the 1500s. Other social and cultural concerns that have defined Ireland since medieval times will also be noted.
