About the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Karen Hays is the interim Vice President for Academic Affairs at Harford Community College. Dr. Hays comes to Harford from Anne Arundel Community College, where she served as Vice President for Learning. In this role, she coordinated Anne Arundel's Achieving the Dream Initiative and was a member of the strategic planning committee.

Dr. Hays has extensive experience in community college administration, and holds a PhD in Community College Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a W.W. Kellogg LeadershipFellow. Previously, Dr. Hays served as Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs atMiddlesexCounty College in New Jersey, and as both a student affairs and academic affairs professional at Miami Dade College.She has worked on program reaccreditation, supported the creation of new academic programs, and successfully fulfilled state mandates in such areas as testing and assessment, articulation agreements between public schools and two- and four-year colleges, and minimum graduation requirements. Dr. Hays has a deep understanding of the community college mission, and has proven herself a successful and devoted steward of that mission.

Dr. Hays joined Harford Community College in April 2019, and will serve as interim Vice President through December 2019.
