Effective July 6, 2020, the College is implementing a screening process for all employees and contractors entering the HCC campus, as follows:

  1. Each time you intend to visit campus, please fill out the Health Screening Questionnaire (available beginning July 6) on the HCC website prior to arriving on campus. After you successfully complete the questionnaire, you may travel to campus.
  2. When you arrive on campus, go to the back door entrance of the Black Box theater in Joppa Hall (located at Entrance 4 off Thomas Run Road) to complete your daily health screening from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday.
  3. Upon completing the health screening, you will receive a wristband. You may then proceed to the appropriate building.
  4. 4. You must use the designated entrance clearly marked on each building. Use your swipe card to gain access to the building. DO NOT USE A KEY TO ENTER A BUILDING or attempt to enter behind someone else, as an alarm will be triggered if you attempt to do so; please also note that Public Safety will not open doors for individuals. To facilitate the College’s efforts at contact tracing, there must be a record of who has entered each building, and the card swipe is the most efficient and effective way to keep that record.
  5. You must wear an appropriate face covering at all times while on campus.

If you anticipate issues gaining access to a building or room on campus, please contact Cathy Boston at cboston@harford.edu or Public Safety well in advance of your authorized visit to campus. On-site assistance in real-time cannot be guaranteed, so it is crucial that you attempt to resolve any concerns before coming to campus.

Message to the Community

In April, HCC appointed a Taskforce for Reopening Campus to develop a phased plan to reopen campus that aligns with federal and state guidelines and public health recommendations. The taskforce has submitted its report, the Executive Summary of which can be read here. HCC’s reopening plan consists of a series of stages (Stage 0 through Stage 3); each stage is accompanied by triggers (dependent on local, state, and federal guidelines) and actions/controls that the College must implement before moving into each stage (including physical distancing, administrative and engineering controls, and the use of personal protective equipment).

The College is currently in Stage 2A, and will remain in Stage 2A for the duration of the Fall 2020 semester. The majority of employees will continue to work from home, and the majority of courses will remain online, with the exception of some courses with a clinical, lab, or hands-on learning component. Accordingly, employees and students should plan for the continuation of an online-only learning and working environment through at least the end of the calendar year. All Fall 2020 courses listed as online-only will remain online-only for the entirety of the Fall 2020 semester. Those Fall 2020 courses listed as hybrid or face-to-face may need to transition to online-only at some point during Fall 2020 if public health conditions worsen and necessitate the College to return to an earlier stage of reopening (Stage 0 or Stage 1).

We understand this news may be difficult; however, these measures are necessary to protect the health and safety of our entire campus community. The College will continue to provide practical and material support to our students and employees throughout this remote learning and working period, with an emphasis on physical, emotional, and mental well-being. I want to thank our campus community for their continued dedication and hard work—not to mention their patience, understanding, and resilience in the face of these unprecedented circumstances. Regardless of whether we are online or on-campus, we will continue to focus our efforts on supporting our students, our employees, and our community.

International Students

HCC is proud to serve ​its international students. We are aware of the recent ruling from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding online-only instruction and F-1 and M-1 visa status. Please know that the College ​strongly advocates for its international students and remains committed to supporting their educational goals. ​HCC international students are encouraged to contact Kelly Otis and Jeanne Goss with any questions ​about their visa status. These students may also be contacted regarding HCC’s response to the ICE ruling.
